What we do

Growing New Communities

Through the sustainable development of urban areas with multifunctional integrated systems of ecoinfraestructures and participatory networks and growing social, economic, cultural and environmental connections.

1. SOCIAL MANAGEMENT AND PARTICIPATORY COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

To promote participatory community development by assessing the potential of the people, sharing experiences, promoting socio-environmental actions and activities to promote awareness, articulation and link the empowerment of all stakeholders.

2. LOCAL AND REGIONAL STRATEGIC & ADAPTATIVE PLANNING

RECNET supports cities and regions and their stakeholders to establish future lines of urban and regional development through the analysis of opportunities and preparing spatial development visions. To develop such highly participatory strategies, RECNET develop a framework based on co-production and co-design.

3. SUSTAINABILITY AND INTANGIBLE CULTURAL HERITAGE (ICH)

RECNET develops the sustainability analysis in a local/regional scale, from the study of rural and urban ecosystem services associated with cultural practices and traditional techniques, for the joint construction of models on sustainable development to safeguard and respect our cultural codes.

4. ECOINFRASTRUCTURES FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGEMENT OF ECOSYSTEM SERVICES.

We are working in research related to the planning and designing of local and regional space through a mat of multifunctional networks of ecoinfrastructures and settlements with zero carbon emissions, ensuring sustainable management of ecosystem services, with emphasis on the management of water resources at the basin level. RECNET has a great knowledge about the use and application of appropriate low-cost or social technologies for water management (urban or rural), to increase the well-being of communities and the capacity to produce goods and services.

5. INTEGRAL NEIGHBORHOOD IMPROVEMENT

During the last 15 years RECNET has participated in the design, development and management of interventions for the overall improvement of neighborhoods in Colombia, Mexico, Perú and Brazil. The “Altos de la Estancia” project in Ciudad Bolivar (Bogota, Colombia) was selected on 2015 among the top 20 global risk management initiatives (Sendai Summit, 2015).

6. PANAMAZONIA

All knowledge generated from the network members from RECNET, is also being applied in innovation and transformation activities centered in the Amazon Basin in Colombia, Brazil, Peru and Ecuador, through its network of first level collaborators, as the same Nucleo de Altos Estudios Amazonicos (NAEA) from the Univ. Federal de Para (Belem, Brazil), the Association of Municipalities of Ecuador (AME) and the University of the Amazon in Florencia (Caqueta, Colombia).
